Where can I buy prescription eyeglases for $8? Where can I save big money on Rx eyeglasses?
We can save BIG MONEY when buying prescription eyeglasses. There’s a huge profit in prescription eyeglasses when buying them from a local optician. The optician makes a big profit, and we have a lot less money when leaving the store. At a local optician, a prescription pair of progressive lense eyeglasses and frames can cost in excess of $400. At the online optical companies linked to below, progressive lense eyeglasses can cost as little as $40. Single lense prescription eyeglasses as low as $8, $12 with shipping charge.
We will still be doing business locally by having our eye exams at a local optometrists office. Certain specific measurements are required by the online optical company which can be done by the optometrist. The local optometrist will do the exam, take the necessary measurements, and then write out a prescription just like in a physicians office. Information from the prescription form is sent to the online optical company when ordering.
These 3 companies are recommended by consumer advocate Clark Howard. Howard said he has received some complaints about Zenni Optical service after the sale, but there have also been reports of many very happy customers. Zenni was the first to use this business model. The other 2 are more recent competitors.
The local optometrist would much rather we buy our eyeglasses from him or her because they are so profitable. Optometrist will most likely try to discourage you from buying online. Here in the midwest USA, eye exams typically cost as low as $50 and up, depending on how involved the exam, and for what is tested.
